    Demon Child

    Dear metal gods,
I am desperate need of some good advice, I found my dad after 17 years of not speaking to him I love talking to him now and all and when we first started talking he told me how he was a born again Christian, but he said that this was not a big deal. However the more I talk to him the more I have noticed that this is in fact a big deal. He keeps mentioning how Christian he is and how I am not Christian myself.  What am I suppose to do? I don’t want to ruin this new friendship but him talking about religion like this makes me uncomfortable, I feel like the demon child he’s trying to save.
I don’t know whom to ask except you.
    All my best
    It’s a big deal

    Dear “Demon Child”,
You are obviously an extremely kind and caring soul. For who else would “value” a friendship with the very “father” who abandoned you? Who else would be able to turn a kind cheek to the “dad” whom you had to track down yourself after 17 years of loneliness and disappointment? Who else would have the emotional depth to feel guilt when this absentee “man of God” suddenly decides that he has the right to start passing judgment on how you life your life?
Why you value this person’s opinion is beyond the Metal Gods but being that you do we will help you.

You see, the Metal Gods adhere to a strict ‘live and let live’ attitude, but if your father wanted to have a say in your life he shouldn’t have taken off with that cocktail waitress in Vegas for 17 years of chaos and penicillin shots. Regardless of spiritual affiliations or repeated birthings the Metal Gods know of no major religion that advocates the abandonment of one’s own children.

What you must do is confront your father. But instead of telling him how it makes you feel when he rubs your nose in his faith you need to ask him why he’s so unsatisfied with his life that he feels the need to project his deeply seated feelings of inadequacy and self-loathing upon you. If there is any man left in that splintered shell of a father he’ll open up to you and you can begin to develop a new relationship based on mutual respect; if not, the spineless snake will disappear from your life once again and descend into the dark pit of his own demons. Either way you win.

Remember in the words of the Metal Gods Fates Warning from the song “The Apparition”:
“In the four corners of life are the golden mirrors reflecting what you are and what you are to be.”
